A noticeably unpleasant odor exhaled from breathing is known as halitosis.The intensity of bad breath differs during the day, due to eating certain foods such as garlic, onions, meat, fish, cheese, smoking, and alcohol consumption. A halitosis problem can bring embarrassing moments.It can also be caused by a dry mouth or a medical disorder. Taking care of your oral hygiene can eliminate halitosis.

• Diet: When a person does not brush or floss their teeth thoroughly, food particles remain in the mouth. Over a period of time, growth of bacteria causes halitosis. Gastrointestinal upset and belching bring bad breathe due to some food intake.
• Dry Mouth: Saliva helps in the digestive process and cleaning of food particle in the mouth and lack of it causes bad breath. Medication, salivary gland problems or breathing through the mouth cause xerostomia or dry mouth.
• Tobacco Products: By either chewing or smoking it, tobacco products are contributors of bad breathe.
• Medical Disorders: Some medical disorders like gum or periodontal disease, lactose intolerance, throat infections, bronchitis or chronic sinusitis are causes too.
• Dentures or Dental Appliances: Dentures or dental appliances, such as braces, can contribute to bad breath. Most often it is due to food particles that are not properly cleansed from the appliances. Halitosis is also caused by ill fitting dentures or braces as they bring mouth infection.
• Morning Breath: Overnight, bacteria accumulate in the mouth, causing bad breath that is commonly referred to as morning breath. A worse morning breathe can be smelled because some people breathe through the mouth as they sleep.
• Respiratory tract infections: Throat infections and sinus infections.
• Systemic illnesses: They include, lung disease, liver disease, diabetes, and reflux disease.
If you stick to the dentists treatment plan when faced with halitosis, the end result is perfect. In case bad breathe is caused by gum disease this can be treatable easily by your dentist.
A recommendation of antimicrobial mouthwash by your dentist will deal with extensive plaque build-up. Excess plaque and bacteria can be removed by brushing your tongue gently when brushing your teeth and your dentist should suggest this.
